Wigston Cadets go training

Article posted: Feb 02, 2011 by Flt Lt Rayson-Flynn

On a recent weekend exercise 40 cadets from 1461 Wigston Sqn decended on a chilly Ullesthorpe scout campsite and were put through their paces in the art of fieldcraft. The cadet NCO team had designed the weekend and were instrumental in the running of the exercises.
The new training and development flight undertook basic fieldcraft skills to teach them such things as how to cope with a 24 hour ration pack, build bashas and how to disguise their shape to make themselves harder to find. The rest of the squadron honed their skills in the art of camouflage and concealment, moving as a section and communications.
During Saturday evening, the cadets enjoyed a belated Christmas dinner (cooked by the civilian committee members) and disco with a side order of karaoke and fancy dress!
On the Sunday all the flights joined forces and took part in a casualty evacuation exercise, putting the fieldcraft and first aid skills to the test!
