The first team from 1461 Wigston Sqn to enter a national aerospace competition has made it to the final 12.
The schools aerospace challenge is a competition for teams aged between 16 and 18 and the team of 3 and 1 reserve had to design an engineering solution to an RAF requirement, this years challenge was to provide a new way to undertake Air to Air refuelling that makes it a safer and easier operation for the pilots.
The team from 1461 Sqn beat off stiff completion and have now been selected for a unique opportunity to visit Cranfield University, learning about the aerospace industry and competing in other challenges to win the top cash prize and a presentation evening with the Air Chief Marshall.
Cpl Elliot Stark, team captain of the Wigston team said “this has been a really fantastic opportunity for the team. We put together a 6 page solution the air to air refuelling programme and we are really looking forward to the challenges at Cranfield.”
