On the 24th may 2012 2418(Sherwood) had the honor of being inspected by OCW Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson OBE RAFVR (T) with Sqn Ldr Carl Wilson. The inspection was taken outside due to the very hot weather.

The squadron was determined to prove to the Wing Commander that we are Nottingham’s number one squadron (as he was told by our staff quite a few times) When he arrived FLT LT Bates (OC of 2418) stood the squadron at attention for the general salute, when the general salute was done FLT LT Bates and the Wing Commander started to inspect the squadron, stopping to have a little chat and joke with cadets and NCO’S, which made some of the new cadets feel very proud as the Commanding Officer of the wing had chosen to speak to them!

During the Inspection the Wing Commander was very pleased to see cadets down all cleaned and neatened up with their uniform ready for this inspection. He was very impressed at the standard of the NCO’S uniform along with many cadets.

When he had finished the inspection he told us how impressed he was with “ Nottingham’s Number 1 squadron” and also he told us “2418 has a unique unity around it which makes this squadron as good as it is” he was also very understanding for the cadets that couldn’t make it down because they had exams and he thanked every cadet of 2418 for attending. He also thanked all the staff for all their hard work and effort put into the squadron.

When he had finished talking to us he had a few presentations to make including the First clasp to the Cadet Forces Medal for Flt Lt Wheeler.
Overall it was a very successful inspection and we are very proud to represent 2418 and we feel that we have proven to the Wing Commander that 2418 is Nottingham’s number one!!
