As we approach the Christmas break I wanted to send my thanks and best wishes to the staff and cadets of South & East Midlands Wing.
2012 has not been without its challenges and frustrations particularly around Cadet aviation as Gliding Squadrons have swapped airframes, poor summer weather, no fly zones and powered aircraft serviceability have all impacted with varying degrees on our ability to keep the “Air” in Air Cadets to the fore.On a more positive note, the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics provided many media opportunities for individuals and units across the Wing, with members of staff and cadets serving as Torchbearers for the Olympic Flame and several units route lining and in a number of cases meeting HM the Queen and other members of the Royal Family during the various Jubilee celebrations.
In addition to the above we have continued to make our presence felt across the Region and also at Corps level with continued success across many disciplines including Shooting, First Aid, Sports, Field Days and Band competitions. We have also held our first Wing Gold D of E expedition that proved very successful and was a contributory factor in such a strong Wing presence at the first ACO only reception at St James Palace.
None of the above could be achieved without the commitment, dedication, effort and willingness of our people, at all levels to go above and beyond and it is this that marks us out from the others as a Wing, a Wing that I am very proud of.
Thank you all for everything you have done for the Squadron, Wing and Corps across 2012. I wish you and your families a merry and safe Christmas, a Happy New Year and look forward to an exciting 2013.
