126 (City of Derby) Sqn were presented with the McKenzie Cup as overall winners of the South & East Midlands Wing 2007 Field Day, held at RAF Wittering on Sunday 24th June 2007.
Despite the poor weather, 29 Squadrons from all over the Wing competed in various competitions in an attempt to win the silverware and certificates that were up for grabs. There were twelve Field Day trophies and numerous certificates awarded on the day and the Station Commander of RAF Wittering, Gp Capt Atherton MA RAF, presented the winners with their trophies.
126 (Derby) Sqn finished as overall winners with 179 points closely followed by 1211 (Swadlincote) Sqn with 170 points, just nine points behind the winners. Third place went to 2070 (Glenfield) Sqn with 149 points.
Gp Capt Atherton also presented the Wing’s annual trophies for 2006, including the Rayson Cup to 378 (Mannock) Sqn for most improved Squadron and the Auster Trophy to 2418 (Sherwood) Sqn for the Best Squadron in South & East Midlands Wing for 2006.
Sqn Ldr Mark Richards, Wing Training Officer (Cadet Development) who organised the Field Day thanked all the Squadrons for their participation and also the Staff for assisting and supporting the competitions on the day. In addition, he commented on the high standards of the competitors and congratulated all winners on their deserved success.
