Last sunday saw cadets from across South & East Midlands Wing Travel to RAF Halton, Bucks for the annual Field Day Competition. The successful cadets were selected by winning at South & East Midlands own Wing Field Day competition between 29 Squadrons.
The drill and banner drill squad made an earlier arrival to RAF Halton on Saturday to get those shirts ironed and last minute refinements to the sequence in place. For the rest of the team, an early start and 2 hour coach drive saw the team complete before 09.00hrs.
This years event was a new venue and also saw the Commandant Air Cadets Air Commodore D McCafferty visiting the Field Day. The Wing was called upon to provide the escorts to welcome the Commandant and also for the band to play.
Competitions got underway and the spirit within the team was high. Cadets were reporting back they felt they’d done well and continued to support each other throughout the day.
The day drew to a close with spirits high despite a long day and we all assembled on final parade with noticeable tension from all Wings awaiting the results.
One by one the results came in and we were delighted to receive some silverware along the way.
The final result was announced and South & East Midlands Wing was announced as Overall winners of the Regional Field Day with the trophy being presented by the Commandant.
All that was left was a final group photo with our spoils and off on the long coach journey home, exhausted but triumphant!
Congratulations to all of South & East Midlands wing.
