Last Sunday saw cadets from across South and East Midlands Wing make their to RAF Cranwell for the Central and East Region Inter-Wing Cross Country Championships.
Following a change of venue and much harder course of the Wing competition involving a lot of mud and crossing a brook, the cadets were in a positive mood and determined to do their best for themselves, their Squadron and their Wing. Its fair to say expectations were high!
As each race set off and cadets started to finish, spirits remained high.
Finally the cadets had finished, the scores were tallied and results started to come in.
The teams score points based on their position up to a maximum of 69, the lowest team being the winners.
Junior Boys – 6th place 51 points. A valiant effort from all our boys
Youths – 1st place 12 points wow!
Junior Men – 1st place 19 points another great result!
U15 Girls – 3rd place 28 points, well done girls!
Senior Girls – 2nd second 17 points – another great team effort
Tension was high as the individual events were totalled and the overall winners were announced …….. With 127 points …… South & East Midlands Wing ……. Yes!!!!
The competition showed its not all about coming first! A fantastic team effort from the Cadets, staff and Deputy Wing Sports Officer saw the TEAM come out on top!
Wing Commander N Dickinson OBE RAFVR said of the days events “A big thank you and well done to our teams for their fantastic achievement in retaining the title of Region Cross Country champions. It was a great team performance all round with some special efforts from parents to ensure the cadets go to the event and helping us out on the day. A special thank you as well to Plt Off Jade Brock for her work in pulling the whole thing together in trying circumstances and Sgt Jessie Clark for providing First Aid cover on the day.
Well done South & East Midlands Wing
